What is Jeonju Hanok Village?

Jeonju Hanok Village is a space where over 700 traditional Hanok houses are beautifully clustered together.

Here, there are many open spaces where you can enjoy various experiences. In addition, there are many beautiful spots that are sure to captivate the heart of those seeking a sentimental journey.

1. Major Attractions: A Place Where History and Scenery Linger

 

Inside and around the Hanok Village, historic sites showcasing the foundations of the Joseon Dynasty harmonize with exotic modern architecture.

Gyeonggijeon Shrine and Royal Portrait Museum:

This shrine was built in 1410 to enshrine the “Eojin,” the portrait of King Taejo Yi Seong-gye.

The lush bamboo forest path is a representative photo spot, and at the Royal Portrait Museum located inside, visitors can view portraits of Joseon kings and related artifacts firsthand.

Jeondong Cathedral:

Located opposite Gyeonggijeon Shrine, it is the largest and oldest Western-style modern building in the Honam region.

The red brick exterior, a blend of Romanesque and Byzantine styles, contrasts with the antique atmosphere of the Hanok Village, offering an exotic landscape.

Omokdae and Imokdae:

These are the sites where King Taejo Yi Seong-gye held a banquet after defeating the Japanese pirates.

Walking up the Omokdae trail allows you to overlook the entire village, where traditional houses are clustered together, making it a favorite spot for photographers.

Jeonju Hyanggyo:

An educational institution from the Joseon Dynasty, it is also famous as a filming location for the drama *Sungkyunkwan Scandal*.

Especially in autumn, the tranquil atmosphere reaches its peak as massive ginkgo trees, some over 400 years old, turn golden.

alleyways of the Hanok Village wearing Hanbok or Gaehwa-era clothing has now become a must-do activity.

Many rental shops assist with styling, making it a great place to capture special photos.

Traditional Crafts and Etiquette Experiences: Filled with the joy of hands-on activities such as making traditional fans (hapjukseon), Hanji paper making, and pottery.

At the Wanpanbon Cultural Center, you can get a glimpse of Jeonju’s printing culture through experiences like woodblock printing and making antique books.

the symbol of Jeonju, to making Kimchi and brewing traditional liquor, you can enjoy a wide range of experiences.

Nambu Market and Youth Mall: Located right next to the Hanok Village, this traditional market is filled with local eateries serving local delicacies like Jeonju bean sprout soup and blood sausage.

In particular, the Youth Mall on the second floor is popular among young travelers for its collection of trendy shops.

Jaman Mural Village: Situated on a hill across from Omokdae, this village features colorful and charming murals painted on every alleyway, making it a great place to take photos while strolling through.

Jeonju Nanjang: A theme museum featuring a vast collection of artifacts from modern and contemporary history collected over 25 years.

The retro-style exhibits, evoking nostalgia for the 70s and 80s generations, are impressive, making it the perfect place to visit with your parents.

Jeonjucheon Stroll and Night View: Cheongyeonru Pavilion, located atop Namcheongyo Bridge over Jeonjucheon Stream flowing alongside the Hanok Village, offers a stunning night view.

It is the best place to take a stroll, escaping the daytime hustle and bustle to enjoy the atmosphere of the Hanoks at night.
